Frequently Asked Questions and Important Information
Do you accept insurance?
I am not in-network with insurance. I accept payment by debit card, credit card, or an HSA/FSA card at the time of service. I also partner with Lyra as a provider through their employee benefits program if you work for a company who has Lyra benefits. Though I am not in-network with insurance providers, many insurance companies offer some reimbursement for out of network psychotherapy. I recommend calling your insurance company and asking some of these questions to determine your out of network benefits:
Do I have mental health coverage?
What is my out of network deductible? Has it been met?
How much does my plan reimburse for an out of network provider for CPT code 90834 and 90837?
How do I submit for out of network reimbursement?
I will provide you with a superbill that contains all necessary documentation to process your claim.
A Good Faith Estimate-What is a GFE & Your Consumer Rights
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
• You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees (which our services do not provide medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment or include hospital fees).
• Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.
How long are therapy sessions with you?
Appointments are either 45 or 60 minutes unless otherwise discussed.
Do you see clients in person?
Self First Therapy provides virtual tele-health appointments and in-person appointments on select days at this time.
What can I expect working with you?
You can expect the first few sessions to have a focus on ‘fit’ between you and I. You can expect me to acknowledge that starting therapy is one of the most vulnerable things you can do and it may take time to feel comfortable. The therapeutic relationship is important to me as a relational therapist as well as helping clients adjust to the therapy process. This is also the time where I will be assessing what is distressing you. I will work collaboratively with you toward reaching your goals, but I have a more hands-on approach to help you reach them. I am not the therapist that is just going to sit and listen to you. This may include giving ‘homework’ at times as I bring in interventions from certain treatment modalities to help you. You can expect that I will have a sense of humor as well as an empowering presence if you work with me.
Do you prescribe medication?
I do not prescribe medication. If medication is recommended to you in conjunction with your therapy, it will be discussed with you, but is entirely your choice. If needed, I can provide reputable referrals for medication needs.
What is your fee?
Session fees are $150/session for individual therapy. I also offer sliding scale rates on a case by case basis.
What age range do you see?
My practice is focused on working with pre-teens, adolescents, and adults. Ages 10+.
What are your hours?
Monday-Friday by appointment only.
